THE PRACTICE OF SAVING LIVES

SOK LU

 

Thupten Ling has been committed to the practice of saving lives since the year 2000. Four times per year, we make great effort to save the lives of beings who have no protector and are in a very dangerous situation. Without us they will be killed. By doing this on auspicious days, our merit can be multiplied 100,000 times. All beings wish to live a long life, and this method of saving lives helps us to increase our own lifespan. According to the teachings of H.H. Chatral Rinpoche on how to increase life and prosperity, before releasing as many animals as possible freeing them from inevitable death, we do refuge, recite the Four Immeasurables and generate bodhicitta and visualize. We also recite many precious mantras and the names of the Buddhas. This helps us to plant the seed of liberation in ourselves and in the animals we are releasing.

 

May virtuous roots gathered throughout the three times make the Buddha’s teachings prosper and bring forth immense virtuous goodness in the world. May all sublime people upholding the Dharma, live long and steadfast, and may their activities flourish. May I and all sentient beings have increased lifespan, merit, splendor, prosperity and wisdom. May these animals too, be freed from the fears of samsara and the lower realms, and soon attain the precious state of enlightenment.
